A Contribution to the Discussion of Unitarian Faith
What is the Unitarian Faith? Do we believe in the Seven Principles? I don’t.
First I recommend reading the article “I don’t believe in the Seven Principles” by Doug Muder in the UU World Magazine. He talks out of my heart.
The Seven Principles are good as visions for a better future. They are the constitution of Unitarian Universalism. They reflect our value system. But they are very general and can be applied to almost any religious system. Terms like “democratic process“, “search for truth and meaning“, “world community“, “peace“ and “liberty
“ are commonplaces of good intensions.
In my sermon I will try to analyze expressions like faith, God, and truth. I do this to arrive at a deeper level of human spiritual conditions. I am looking for pre-faith, pre-God and pre-truth.
And by doing so I describe my seven convictions. I hope that these convictions present a grass root level that comes before the evolution of terms like faith, God, and truth.
We will share a community meal from 12:15 – 13:15, please bring something to share.
Parents: Please let us know if you are bringing children and how many, along with ages for first timers.
